Terms of use
Last updated 2026-09-07. Operated by an individual, not a company. Questions: privacy@satspots.com. The operator is a private individual who does not publish their name and address here, for personal safety: this service is publicly associated with bitcoin. They are identified to our hosting and payment providers, and their identity is given to any competent authority, court, or person with a legitimate legal claim, on request to the address above.
SatSpots is a directory of places that accept bitcoin, built on open data and run by a very small operation. These terms say what that means in practice, what it does not mean, and what each of us is responsible for. Using the site means accepting them.
1. What this service is
A map and directory assembled from OpenStreetMap contributors via BTC Map, under the Open Database Licence, together with corrections made here and content published by business owners. We publish how recently each listing was confirmed and a confidence score, precisely because open data goes stale and pretending otherwise would be dishonest.
We host and organise information. We do not inspect, endorse or guarantee the businesses listed, and a listing is not a recommendation.
2. What we do not promise
The service is provided as it is and as available, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement, to the fullest extent the law allows.
In particular we do not promise that a listing is accurate, current or complete, that a business still accepts bitcoin, that a stated payment method works, that opening hours are right, or that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free. Check before you travel, and treat a low confidence score as the warning it is meant to be.
3. What we never do
We never touch bitcoin. SatSpots holds no keys, no seed phrases, no wallets and no funds, and there is nothing on this site that could. Nobody here will ever ask you for a private key or a seed phrase; anything claiming to be us and asking for one is not us.
Nothing here is financial, tax, investment or legal advice. Ranking and confidence scores are not for sale, and no payment to us changes either.
4. Using the site
You must be at least 16 years old, or the age of digital consent where you live if it is higher. You agree not to: submit false, unlawful, defamatory or infringing content; impersonate anyone; interfere with the service or its security; use automated means to overload it; circumvent rate limits or access controls; or reuse the data in breach of the Open Database Licence it comes under. Bulk reuse of the underlying data is governed by that licence and by BTC Map and OpenStreetMap, not by us, and you do not need to scrape this site to obtain it: the whole dataset is published as a single file at /data.
5. Content you send us
Confirmations, closure reports, corrections, profile content, photos and offers stay yours. By submitting them you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to store, publish, adapt for display and distribute them as part of the service, and, where we pass a factual correction upstream to the open data everyone shares, to do so. We have no automatic path into OpenStreetMap today: corrections are applied here, and passed on by hand where they are worth it. The licence covers both, so the promise can be kept without being overstated. You confirm you have the right to grant that licence, including for every photo you upload.
6. Business accounts
By claiming a listing you confirm that you are authorised to represent that business. What you publish must be accurate, lawful and not misleading, and offers must be real and honoured while displayed.
The owner badge states one thing: that someone in control of the listing manages the profile. It is not a certification of your business, your goods or your services, and we do not vouch for you to anyone.
You agree to indemnify us against any third-party claim, loss, liability or reasonable cost arising from content you publish through your account or from your breach of these terms. This does not apply to the extent the claim results from our own act.
7. Suspension, removal and closure
We may remove content, revoke a claim, suspend or close an account, without notice where a delay would cause harm, if these terms are broken, if the law requires it, or if the account is being used abusively. Where we can, we will say why, and you can reply to us at privacy@satspots.com.
8. Reporting illegal content
If you believe something here is illegal, infringes your rights, or should not be published, write to privacy@satspots.com with the exact page address, what the problem is, and enough detail to let us judge it. We review such notices and act on them promptly, and we will tell you what we decided. This address is also our contact point for authorities.
For a factual error, the buttons on each listing and the claim process are faster than a legal notice and fix the problem at the source.
9. Paid plans
Where a paid plan is offered, it is billed in ordinary currency through Stripe and never in bitcoin. Prices are shown before you commit, and taxes may be added where they apply. Plans are offered to businesses acting in a commercial capacity.
You manage and cancel your plan yourself from your billing page, and deleting your account also cancels it. Cancelling stops the plan and its paid features. We do not refund a period already begun, except where the law where you live requires it, which in some places it does. If you subscribe as a consumer and have a right to withdraw, asking us to start immediately means you accept that the right ends once we have performed in full; write to us and we will deal with it properly.
If we discontinue a paid feature or the service itself, we will refund the unused part of what you paid for it.
10. Changing or discontinuing the service
This is a small project. We may change, limit or discontinue any part of it, and we may stop entirely. Where a change is significant and you have a paid plan, we will tell you in advance by email. Section 9 says what happens to money in that case.
11. Limits of our responsibility
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, nor for loss of profit, revenue, data, goodwill or opportunity, nor for a journey to a business that had closed, changed its payment methods or was listed incorrectly by the open data we relayed.
To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability arising out of or relating to the service in any twelve month period is limited to the amount you paid us for the service in that period, or fifty euro if you paid us nothing.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, for gross negligence or wilful misconduct, or for anything else the law of your country protects.
12. Events outside our control
We are not responsible for failing to perform where the cause is outside our reasonable control, including failures of hosting, payment, email or map providers, network outages, or acts of authorities.
13. Other terms
These terms and the privacy notice are the whole agreement between us about the service. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. Not enforcing a term is not a waiver of it. Nothing here creates a partnership, agency or employment relationship. You may not transfer your rights under these terms; we may transfer ours if the service changes hands, and your rights are not reduced by that.
14. Changes and law
We may update these terms; the date at the top says when we last did, and continuing to use the site after a change means accepting it. For a paid plan, changes take effect at your next renewal.
These terms are governed by the law of Portugal, and the courts of Portugal have jurisdiction, except that if you are a consumer you keep the mandatory protections and the courts of the country where you live.
